coir
fibre
Different
varieties of coir yarn are used for geotextile manufacturing.
Yarn is made out of fibre extracted from coconut husk.
BROWN
FIBRE
Fibre mechanically extracted from dry mature
coconut husk after soaking.
Brown mattress fibre is generally a low quality fibre containing
lots of impurities (pith-husk skin) - short life-
Except bristol fibre: long, hard and strong fibre but with
lower softness, lower water absorption capacity, and shorter life
than long retted fibre.
|
UNRETTED
GREEN FIBRE
Is extracted from green coconut husk after soaking.
Because of no retting, this white fibre is damaged during extraction
and large quantity of pectin and acid are present despite the fact
that the fibre is immersed in water for 1 month after extraction. The
strength of the fibre is often lower than brown fibre.
|
RETTED
FIBRE the
must
Also called white fibre is extracted from green
coconut husk after retting in flowing, circulating or changed water
(lagoon-river) for a period of minimum three months (vycome retted
fibre "3 to 6 months" - aratory "4 to 6 months"
-
anjengo and parur "6 to12 months").The retting
will help the fibre to be extracted easily and without damage (hand
or
machinery). The original strength and length of the fibre will be
preserved.
Long retting will withdraw much acid and pectin, which can cause oxidation
and shorter life of the fibre. The lignin and the
cellulose will be reinforced. The yarn made out of long retted fibre
will be softer (better to follow the unevenness of the
ground), will have water power absorption increased (better water
redistribution and thermal isolation), higher breaking
strength power, better elongation capacity, and superior longevity.
Long retted fibre is the must for good quality yarn. |

WITH THE
SAME QUALITY FIBRE, SOFT TWISTING WILL MAKE SOFTER YARN (better
to follow the unevenness of the ground) BUT WITH LESS BREAKING
STRENGTH AND WATER VELOCITY RESISTANCE THAN HARD TWISTING.
WHEEL
SPUN HARD TWIST YARN HAVE BETTER FLEXIBILITY, AND BETTER HAIRY
SYSTEM (even with long fibre) TO RETAIN THE FINE SOIL`S PARTICLE
AND THE SEED THAN MACHINERY SPUN HARD TWIST YARN.
